Mountain America Credit Union (MACU) is a credit union that is based in West Jordan in the state of Utah. The credit union is federally chartered and regulated by the National Credit Union Administration.
In the state of Utah, MACU is the 2nd biggest credit union and it’s ranked in the top 15 in the list of the country’s credit unions in terms of the asset size.
This credit union has approximately 700,000 members with assets valued at $7 billion by November 2017. On its own, the credit union has 82 branches but member can still access services at over 5000 branches that the credit union shares with other credit unions in the country.
History of MACU
Mountain America Credit Union was launched in 1934. In the beginning, it was known as the Utah Telephone Credit Union and was established to offer services to people who were working for telephone companies such as:
- Mountain Bell
- Western Electric
- AT&T
- Salt Lake Telephone
It wasn’t until 1984 when the credit union changed its name to Mountain America Credit Union. In the same year, it acquired two other credit unions; Entra Credit Union and Postal Workers Credit Union.
Four years later, MACU merged with Utah State Credit Union and this made it the second biggest credit union in the state.
The credit union decided to change from being a state chartered institution to a federally chartered one in 2003. This followed the decision of lawmakers in the state who were looking to impose a 5% tax on the three biggest credit unions in the state.
The Headquarters
At the moment, Mountain America Credit Union headquarters are located at 7181 South Campus View Drive in West Jordan. However, the bank recently broke ground on a new corporate headquarters which will be located on 9800 South Monroe Street.
The ground-breaking ceremony was held on 17th Nov 2016 and construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2018.
The building will be eleven stories high and will have a 327,000 square feet of space. It will be able to accommodate 1,700 people. The building is certain to be a landmark due to its size and will be the biggest commercial building that’s outside the downtown area of Salt Lake City.
The parking area will be in an adjacent building which will have 1800 parking spaces. This will be shared by the nearby Hale Centre Theatre.

Their family members can also join the credit union.
Individuals who are members of certain associations as well as those who are employees of specific companies can also join the credit union. These include employees of:

- Smith’s Food and Drug etc.
There are over 3800 other companies whose employees can also join the credit union. Family members of the employees can also join the credit union.

my mother has money in Mountain America. In her will it is left to 3 daughters. The bank is not releasing the money in a manner that can accommodate people 80 and over in the middle of Covid. They could send it to us or put it in 3 separate accounts but they insist we all show up together at the same time at the bank. Physically this cannot be done. So they just sit on the money although two attorneys say they CAN accommodate us legally

I HAVE PANCREATIC CANCER , AT THE TIME OF THIS SITUATION HAPPENED, I WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL WITH COVA VIRUS. THE REP I SPOKE TO ON THE PHONE ON 10/04/21.
MY CALL TO THE REP WAS TO ASK A QUESTION ABOUT MY SPEEDY CASH CREDIT FUNDS THAT WERE DEPOSIT INTO MY ACCOUNT.
THIS IS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAD A HOLD ON MY ACCOUNT FROM MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE.
I’VE BEEN WITH YOUR BANK 9 YEARS HAVE REFERRED PEOPLE TO YOU TALKS SO GOOD ABOUT YOU UP ON FACEBOOK.
THE REP I SPOKE WITH SAID THAT SHE WAS GOING TO CONTACT THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT PUT ME ON HOLD SHE RETURNED A COUPLE OF MINUTES LATER. THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT TOLD HER TO ASSURE ME THAT WHEN MY FUNDS ARE DEPOSIT FOR NOVEMBER THAT THE HOLD WOULD BE TAKEN OFF, FOR ME TO WAIT 24 HOURS AND I WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE SO I CAN PAY MY BILLS. BUT INSTEAD MY ACCOUNT AND CARDS WERE CLOSED MY FUNDS WERE TRANSFERRED TO MY SAVINGS ACCOUNT. THE CHECKING ACCOUNT IT’S STATING THAT I OWE OVER $600 PLUS. EVERY MONTH I HAVE TO USE THIS TO PAY MY BILLS . WHEN IT IS DEPOSIT I PAY THE BANK BACK. THEY’RE GOING TO BLAME ME TELLING ME THAT I SHOULD KNOW THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SYSTEM TO ROLL OVER OR START AGAIN.
WELL LIKE I TOLD THEM I DON’T HAVE YOUR COMPUTER IN FRONT OF MY FACE TO LET ME KNOW IF IT HAS ROLLED OVER OR NOT .THAT IS UP TO THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I AM SPEAKING TO , TO LET ME KNOW THIS.
THE REPS THAT I TALK TO ON 08/30/21 I CALLED TO USE MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE SO I CAN PAY MY BILLS I HAVE THEM ON AUTO PAYMENT THEY START PULLING MY BILLS ON THE 30TH OF EVERY MONTH. WHEN A REPRESENTATIVE TELLS ME NO PROBLEM THAT’S LETTING ME THINK THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY I’VE HAD REPRESENTATIVES TELL ME LINDA YOU WAIT THE 24-HOUR SO THE SYSTEM CAN ROLLOVER OR RESTART. THE COMPUTER IS IN FRONT OF THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I AM SPEAKING TO THEY SEE EVERYTHING NOT ME IT’S THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE REP TO TELL ME IT HASN’T ROLLED OVER OR RESTARTED ITSELF. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WAITING 24 HOURS IF I HAVE TO. A COUPLE OF OTHER REPRESENTATIVES THAT I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAS SAID LINDA THE SYSTEM HASN’T ROLLED OVER YET YOU HAVE TO WAIT THE 24 HOURS FINE.
I DON’T WORK FOR MACU I’M A CUSTOMER. AND THE LADY IN THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT AND QUOTE GENTLEMAN THAT I SPOKE TO TALK TO ME LIKE I WAS NOBODY TO TELL ME LINDA LINDA YOU BEEN WARNED OVER AND OVER HOW DOES SHE KNOW WHEN SHE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THAT I TALKED TO SOMEONE ON OCTOBER 4TH. AND THEN SHE’S GOING TO MAKE A COMMENT WELL I HOPE YOU CAN FIND A BANK THAT WILL ACCEPT YOU AND OTHER WORDS WHEN THEY FIND OUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING ONE THAT WILL LET YOU DEPOSIT YOUR SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY FUNDS IN.
AND THE REP THAT I TALK TO WHEN MY FUNDS WERE DEPOSITED 10/30/21 SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT THE 24 HOURS AND IN STEAD OF TRANSFERRING MY FUNDS INTO MY JASMINE ACCOUNT. SO I THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS OKAY BECAUSE LIKE I SAID THAT COMPUTERS NOT IN FRONT OF ME I DON’T KNOW WHEN IT’S GOING TO RESET.
ON 08/30/21 I CALLED TO USE MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE SO I CAN PAY MY BILLS I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 24 HOURS THAT WAS FINE, WHEN I CALLED THE NEXT DAY YOU WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR COMPUTER I DON’T RECEIVE FOOD STAMPS SO IT HAD BEEN 24 HOURS SINCE I HAVE EATEN, I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR TO SEE IF I CAN AT LEAST GET $10 PUT ON MY JAZZMAN SO I COULD EAT HE ACTUALLY TOLD ME NO THAT THEY PROBABLY WOULDN’T BE UP AND WORKING TILL THE FOLLOWING DAY SO THAT WOULD BE 48 HOURS THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE EATING. THE WAY THIS PERSON MADE ME FEEL WAS LIKE I WAS NOBODY I WAS HUMILIATED I CRIED THIS PERSON DIDN’T HAVE NO EMPATHY, SO I DIDN’T HAVE ACCESS TO MY FUNDS UNTIL 09/02/21 WHEN THEY WERE INITIALLY DEPOSIT ON THE 08/30/21, I WAS HUNGRY AND SICK IM NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE MY MEDICATIONS WITHOUT FOOD.
BECAUSE OF THAT SITUATION WITH WITH THE COMPUTERS BEING DOWN I DIDN’T GET TO PAY MY AUTO INSURANCE WHICH IS DUE ON THE 30TH OF EVERY MONTH I NO LONGER HAVE INSURANCE ON MY VEHICLE I HAVE A TITLE LOAN THAT WAS DUE ON THE 30TH, THEY ARE GIVING ME 2 MORE DAYS TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY OR ELSE THEY WILL COME TAKE MY VEHICLES I CAN’T DRIVE I HAVE NO INSURANCE, I CANT PAY MY RENT , MY GAS BILL, MY PHONE BILL MY FINGERHUT BILL, MY SHOP LC ACCOUNT. I DON’T HAVE NO HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES NO FOOD AND NOW THE PERSON I RENT THE ROOM FROM IS TELLING ME THAT IF I SLEEP WITH HIS PERVERTED SELF THAT HE WOULD TAKE LITTLE OFF THE RENT AND I CAN WORK IT OFF IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. ALL BECAUSE OF THE OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE WHICH YOU BEEN PAID BACK EVERY MONTH. IT IS MACU CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TO INFORM ME WHEN I GO TO USE MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE IF IT HASN’T RESET ITSELF ONCE AGAIN I CAN’T SEE YOUR COMPUTERS AND WHEN THEY TRANSFER IT OVER TO MY EXPRESS DEBIT CARD I FEEL IT MUST HAVE RESET. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THIS BEFORE IN MY LIFE AND IT’S AN AWFUL FEELING I FELT LIKE THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT LADY THAT I TALK TO AND THE SUPERVISOR I TALKED TO THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE BETTER THAN ME. THEY MADE ME FEEL DIRTY LOW LIFE. JUST LIKE THAT ONE DID IN SEPTEMBER I EVEN SENT IN THE COMPLAINT ABOUT HIM. I HAVE BEEN WITH YOU FOR 9 YEARS I HAVE RECOMMENDED SO MANY PEOPLE TO YOU I PUT STUFF UP ON FACEBOOK ALL THE TIME BRAGGING ABOUT HOW EVERY ONE OF YOU GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO HELP YOUR CUSTOMERS IN ANY WAY YOU CAN POSSIBLE. I HAVE SAID THAT I WOULD NEVER CHANGE TO ANOTHER BANK. AND NOW MY ACCOUNTS ARE CLOSED I DON’T HAVE NO MONEY TO PAY MY BILL SO I WILL LOSE MY VEHICLE TO REPOSSESSION. I WILL BE HOMELESS BECAUSE I AM NOT GOING TO BE SEXUALLY HARASSED BY THE PERSON I RENT A ROOM FROM. I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND IT I ASKED TO USE MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE IT WAS PUT ON MY EXPRESS DEBIT CARD WHICH IS CALLED MY JAZZMAN, THEN I CALLED TO CHECK ON THE DEPOSIT THAT SPEEDY CASH MADE I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A HOLD ON MY ACCOUNT THEY SAID IT’S BEEN 45 DAYS SINCE I USED MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE IT WAS NOT 45 DAYS, I CALL EVERY MONTH TO LET A REPRESENTATIVE KNOW TO PUT A MEMO WHEN MY FUNDS WOULD BE DEPOSIT. I FEEL THIS WAS NOT MY FAULT IT WAS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHEN YOUR COMPUTER’S ROLLOVER IT IS YOUR REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITY TO LET ME KNOW THIS SO I HAD NO IDEAL THAT WHEN YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TRANSFERRED MY FUNDS ON TO MY EXPRESS DEBIT CARD THAT THIS SYSTEM DID NOT RESTART OR ROLL OVER.THEY SAID IT WAS TO SOON FOR ME TO USE MY OVERDRAFT THE BRIDGE WILL THEN WHY DID THE REPRESENTATIVE DO IT I DON’T HAVE CONTROL OVER THAT. THE SUPERVISOR THAT I TALKED TO TOLD ME WE’LL GO DOWN TO THE BANK AND SEE IF THEY’LL LET YOU TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR SAVINGS I’M SITTING HERE THINKING ALL RIGHT SHE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT 10% I WAS REALLY IN SHOCK THAT I WAS BEING TALKED TO AND TREATED LIKE THIS AND I FIGURED IT OUT THAT’S A LITTLE OVER $100 THAT WOULD BE THE HUNDRED DOLLARS THAT SPEEDY CASH HAD DEPOSIT IN MY BANK ACCOUNT .
THAT’S WHY THEY LEFT SIX HUNDRED AND SOMETHING DOLLARS IN MY CHECKING AND PUT THE REST IN THE SAVINGS FOR WHEN I WENT TO MY BANK I WOULD BE TOLD THAT I CAN ONLY HAVE WHAT WAS AVAILABLE AND THE REST WOULD BE PAYING OFF THE $600.PLUS . I HAVE PAID THAT THE BANK EVERY MONTH I HAVE NEVER TRIED GETTING OUT OF IT I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE MOUNTAIN AMERICA CREDIT UNION WOULD CLOSE A PERSON THAT RECEIVES SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY AND HAS PANCREATIC CANCERS ACCOUNT. CHECK THE RECORDS YOU WILL SEE I HAVE ALWAYS PAID YOU BACK FROM USING MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE. ALL THROUGH THESE YEARS DEALING WITH MOUNTAIN AMERICA CREDIT UNION EVERYONE HAS BEEN SO WONDERFUL AND UNDERSTANDING. AND FOR THIS TO BE HAPPENING AND FOR SOMEONE TO BE SO RUDE TO ME. TELLING ME I HAVE BEEN WARNED OVER AND OVER THAT IS UNTRUE. THAT’S WHEN I TOLD HER HOW WOULD YOU KNOW HE WAS ONLY OFF THE PHONE WITH ME FOR 2 MINUTES AND THEN YOU WERE ON YOU HAD NO TIME TO CHECK THE PHONE LOGS FOR MY CONVERSATIONS WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES YOU HAD NO TIME TO LOOK AT THE COMPUTERS. AND I TOLD HER THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN ME AND THE LAST REPRESENTATIVE THAT I SPOKE TO ON OCTOBER 4TH WHEN SHE SPOKE TO THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT ABOUT THE HOLD THAT WAS PUT ON MY ACCOUNT THAT’S WHEN I WAS ASSURED THAT WHEN MY FUNDS WOULD BE DEPOSIT FOR NOVEMBER THAT I WILL WAIT 24 HOURS THE HOLD WOULD BE TAKEN OFF AND I CAN USE MY OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE TO PAY MY BILLS. I EVEN TOLD THE REPRESENTATIVE ARE YOU SURE I WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE MY FUNDS AND PAY MY BILLS THEY START PULLING THEM ON THE 30TH AND SHE SAID YES YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT,
I TOLD THE LADY FROM THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT THIS WAS OCTOBER 30TH TO CHECK THE CONVERSATION THAT I HAD WITH THIS REPRESENTATIVE AND THEN THE LADY FROM THE CREDIT DEPARTMENT AND THIS MAN THE SUPERVISORS GOING TO TELL ME WELL YOU’RE NOT TELLING THE TRUTH BECAUSE YOU GOT TO WAIT 48 HOURS BEFORE YOU CAN HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE , I TOLD THEM NO NO YOU’RE WRONG BECAUSE EVEN ON THE WEBSITE IT STATES 24 HOURS THAT’S WHY I’M STATING THAT THEY ARE DOING THIS TO BE PREJUDICES OR MALICE AGAINST ME.
