History of BancFirst

The story of BancFirst started in 1966. The main investor H.E. Rainbolt purchased Federal National Bank which was based in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

At that time, the bank’s assets were valued at $16 million. In the 70s, Rainbolt continued to acquire interests in other banks in the rural parts of Oklahoma. Thereafter, he formed Thunderbird Financial Corporation which was meant to assist the banks with management services.

In 1985, the banks owned by Rainbolt, which were located in 7 communities, came under the ownership of one corporation, United Community Corporation.

Two years afterwards, 12 banks that were owned by the corporation were brought under one charter and the company was named BancFirst with its corporate offices being moved to Oklahoma City.

The company’s first CEO was David Rainbold. He assumed the position in 1992 when the bank had assets valued at $681 million. The first public offering of the bank took place in 1993. BancFirst started to expand into the metropolitan and suburban areas of Oklahoma.
