You're just a number and they're in it for themselves.

Very unhappy with this bank. Its changed hands at least three times since I joined them.
I am currently dealing with an incident involving Columbia bank in my town Redding, CA. My Mother passed aeay in Oct 2020. I sat at a desk with my Mom, and a customer service representative.
We asked to have myself added to all accounts in my Motbers name. I explained she has dementia as well as colon cancer. My Mothers checking account was quite a convoluted mess and it was causing her stress. I became her payee. My Mother was on Social Security. My husband and I owened the mobile home in which she lived. She gave jewelry and specific items to family members before she passed. There was no will or estate as I was her primary caregiver everything else was in our names together.
I recently went in to close out the account. I was given the little money left from the account and told I couldnt have the contents of our safe deposit box because my name wasn’t on it.
I was told my name was on all paperwork the day we sat at the costomer service desk. This was clearly an oversight on her part.
I was then told I needed legal documents. I told the counter clerk the items in the box belonged to my Mother and I. It was a small coin collection and I could provide a complete inventory. I was told unless there was a will in the Box I could not have access even though I have both keys. I was told to return with official documents.
I spoke to a paralegal and was told it was an expensive and time consuming venture. She also stated I would win since there was no estate, probate or petitioners and that the bank would end up having to pay my attorney costs due to a certain California probate code section.
This is all totally unnecessary because one employee overlooked one signature.
I obtained a notorized Affidavit for collection of personal property CPCS 13100.
Again I’m told there was nothing they could do. They would scan it to Corporate. So now someone in another state will look at three pieces of paper and make a decision.
