Although the bank has been around since 1874, it has maintained a relatively small footprint. In recent times, it has taken a few steps to reach more people in Southwest Kansas.

In 2016, Philip Eaton, who had been the president of the bank for 31 years retired from the position of president. He’d been the bank’s president since 1984 and oversaw five acquisitions by the bank:

• State Bank of Parsons in 1985
• First National Bank in 1989. This bank was located in Oswego
• Mid America Federal Savings and Loan (1990)
• Peoples Savings and Loan (1990)

In 2014, the bank also took over several branches that had previously belonged to Bank of America. When Eaton took over, the bank had assets valued at $55 million. This had translated to $323 million in 2015.
