Bank of the West is yet another bank that traces its roots to the state of California. It was founded in 1874. It now serves as a regional financial services company with its headquarters in California.

Bank of the West is a subsidiary of the international Banking group BNP Paribas which is based in France. BNP Paribas has operations in 75 countries. It’s the leading within all the countries that use the Euro as their currency.

A Brief History of Bank of the West

At its founding, Bank of the West was known as Farmers National Gold Bank of San Jose, California. It changed from a gold national bank in 1880 and also changed its name to First National Bank of San Jose California. This was when bank notes could finally be converted to gold and silver.

BNP started the French Bank of California in 1970 before acquiring Bank of the West in 1979. BNP then merged the two banks resulting in assets totaling $350 million. The bank would acquire other banks in the decades that followed.

Bank of West’s headquarters are located at 180 Montgomery Street. The building is located in San Francisco’s financial district and has 25 stories. It is 322 feet tall.

The building is co-owned by Mitsui Fudosan America and The Swig Company. It has a number of notable tenants apart from Bank of the West such as Western Union and Prudential Insurance.

The building has been renovated several times since its construction and it has attained the LEED Gold certification for lower operating costs and improved productivity. From the building, you can enjoy great views of the Bay and the surrounding area. It’s classified as a Class A office tower.
