Capital Bank Headquarters Information

Capital Bank was the banking division of the Capital Bank Financial Corporation. The holding company was based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The bank was acquired by First National Horizon Corporation at the end of 2017.

At the time of the acquisition, Capital Bank had assets valued at around $10 billion. It also had 193 banking offices.

History of Capital Bank

Capital Bank was a relatively new bank. It began its operations in July of 2010. The bank had been established to acquire other financial institutions which were struggling as a result of the recent financial crisis.

The bank purchased assets worth $1.2 billion and took on $960.1 million in deposits from three banks that had failed from the FDIC.

Capital Bank Financial Corp invested $175 million into TIB Financial Corp. in 2010. This was a company that was offering financial services and had assets that were valued at $1.7 billion.

The financial company also had 28 branches which were located in:

• Southwest Florida
• South Miami-Dade County
• Florida Keys

Several months later, at the beginning of 2011, Capital Bank Financial Corp. invested $181.1 million in Capital Bank Corporation.

This was financial services company that was publicly held and had assets valued at $1.7 billion.

It also had 32 branches which were operating as Capital Bank. These were located in western and central North Carolina.

Later that year, the five banks acquired by the company were merged under the brand Capital Bank.

Later that year, the bank would invest $217 million in Green Bankshares, Inc., a financial company that was similar to the others and had assets valued at $2.3 billion.

Green Bankshares, Inc. had 65 branches which were operating as GreenBank. These were located in:

• Virginia
• North Carolina
• Tennessee

In February of the following year, these branches were also rebranded as Capital Bank.

Other acquisitions by Capital Bank Financial Corp. included:

• Southern Community Financial Corporation
• CommunityOne Bank

Late in 2017, the merger of Capital Bank and First Tennessee Bank (part of the First Horizon family) resulted in the creation of the Southeast’s 4^th largest regional bank.

Despite the merger, branches of Capital Bank that are not in Tennessee still operate under the Capital Bank name.

Capital Bank Headquarters

Since Capital Bank’s merger, it now shares a corporate headquarters with First Tennessee Bank. This is located at 165 Madison Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.

The building is now known as First Tennessee Bank Building. However, it has also been known as First National Bank Building.

The building stands at 332 feet. This makes it the city’s 7^th tallest building. The site on which the building stands was also the site of the Goodwyn Institute which was only completed in 1927.

First Tennessee Building was constructed between 1961 and 1964 and has a total of 25 floors.

The offices of the bank in the building underwent renovations in 2015. These were supposed to increase the capacity of these spaces. It was expected that there would be enough space for an additional 200 workers once the work was completed.
